Place me like a seal over your
heart, like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as
the grave.
It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.
Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.
Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.
If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love,
it would be utterly scorned.

We usually think of Red and/or Pink and white and lacy
frills associated with February and Valentine’s Day. That’s fine, but I decided to put a twist on that and in
using one of my favorite poems, ‘How Do I Love Thee?” written by Elizabeth
Barrett Browning for her husband,
I came up with this ‘unusual’ CD Jewel Case Card for a Man. I chose neutral, earth tones, a woodsy
feel in background and additional elements and a touch of blue to make a more
masculine-feeling yet romantic card.
* I took the
black inset out of a CD jewel case.
Pry it out carefully.
* I cut a piece
of cream parchment cardstock to fit the front of the case and a piece of Kraft
cardstock to fit into the inside ‘back’ section. I embossed both pieces with a wood grain embossing folder in
my Cuttlebug. I then lightly inked
them both with dark brown ink.
* I printed the
poem, ‘How Do I Love Thee?’ on parchment cardstock with brown ink, cut it to
fit into the back inside of the case front, inked the edges of the piece and
then attached it to the wood grain front piece by a strip of folded Kraft
paper.
* I cut a
‘Flourished Frame 3’ from dark brown cardstock and embossed it with the wood
grain embossing folder.
* I cut the new
‘Heart Swirl cf’ from Kraft cardstock for the background and cream cardstock for the flourish
part.
* I tied 2
kinds of twine through a wooden Heart Button, tied a bow at the back and
adhered it to the Heart Swirl flourish.
I then adhered the button to the flourish, then the flourish to the frame
and the frame to the top side of the front of the CD case.
* For the
inside ‘prop,’ I scored and folded Kraft paper at half and quarter inch intervals, adhered
it to the base piece. I
punched the edge of parchment cardstock, cut it into strips, added faux-stitiching with a felt pen and then adhered
them to the prop piece. One can
add quotes, verses, lists of 'Reasons Why I Love You' or whatever one wants to
put on them. One can make any
number of prop rows and cards…
* I made a
flower with the ‘Flower and Branch 918 cf’, inked the edges with brown, 'rounded'
the petals with an embosser tool on a foam mat, added a bronze patterned brad
to the center and adhered it atop some punched Kraft paper leaves to the
inside back of the case.
There you have a nice ‘card’ to give to your Special Guy Someone! Since I don’t have – nor ever will
again have – a Special Someone in my life, I’ll probably give it to a Gal
Friend to give her Special Someone… It was nice to work on a
‘masculine-intended’ project.

Oh Lynden, this is super COOL! I love that you didn't do the traditional V-time colors. I also love that idea of the tabs on the inside. I didn't realize that was faux stitching....AMAZING my friend! Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us!
