Repurposed Items - Trash to Treasures!

He who was seated on the throne said,
“ Behold, I am *making all things new!”
 Revelation 21:5
**Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy loving kindness;
for they have been ever of old.
Psalm 25:6

I noticed that one of my favorite blogs (www.iHeartOrganizing.blogspot.com ) has a special emphasis on *Repurposed Items this week.  I thought I’d share some of mine with you all and then refer you to her site and the many creative ideas that others have offered.

I have long been one to *Repurpose items even before it became ‘fashionable.’  These are just a few of my recent creations.

I have taken old cookie sheets out of the Trash Bin (literally) and have made them into these Treasures - Magnetic **Memo Boards -

+  Spray paint them to hide blemishes
+  Cut discontinued wallpaper (free!) or scrapbook paper to fit the tray for the background - Can be ModPodged to protect it
+  Flourishes and other design elements were cut with my Cricut/SCAL
+  Various types of magnets can be used - purchased or handmade - to post the quotes, things to remember or whatever you choose to post.

You can also get little magnetic containers to use on these for organizing small items - crafting, jewelry, spices, office elements...  You can get magnetic hangers to use for hanging keys or other small items that you might need as you head out the door.  The themes and uses for these are limitless!   I’d love to see what YOU come up with!

I also changed an empty candle jar into a cookie/snack jar - (along with the recipe!) - to give as a Thank You gift.

I changed an empty food jar into a tea light candle.

Just as God is daily changing me into *Something New, as I **remember His promises, I enjoy *repurposing items from our daily life into *Something New - and still usable!

My Prayer for 2012 -

2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
          Psalm 40:2-3

My current 'assignment' for the Layout/Mini Group at 'Create, Share & Inspire!' (More Paper  Than Shoes) is included in this post.  Here is my Layout for ‘What Does the New Year Mean to Me?”  I saw the photo quote online several months ago and felt that it was appropriate for my life.  I chose some of the several scripture verses that are appropriate for where I am and where I hope 2012 will take me -  The ‘sheet music’ flourishes represent the importance of music to me.  Flowers represent one of my joys - and my last name…!

*I cut the swirly frame for the photo with my Cricut, then ripped and ink-smudged the edges of the frame and shadow.  The flowers ( $$ Store) are white ones spritzed with Copper distress spray.  The centers are jewels from Recollections.
*I printed the verses, cut them with a Tag punch (Martha Stewart), smudged the edges with Copper ink and attached them with Copper brads.
*The Flourishes are cut (Cricut) from paper printed with old sheet music I’d bought at an antique shop, scanned and ‘colored’ in PSE 8.
*The journaling is printed on Vellum so the printed element on the background paper would show through.
*I used my ‘double-hole punch’ to punch two rows to weave ribbon through - and then attached a bow.
*I stamped the year with number stamps (Michaels).

Oil and perfume gladden the heart; so too does the sweetness of friendship comfort the soul. (Proverbs27:9)

MPTS Inspiration Team -  1/18/12

I’ve been asked to be on the Inspiration Team for January/February/March for ‘More Paper Than Shoes’ - Here is my offering for the Inspiration Team for January 2012.  We were to use Sledding as the theme with blue, white and silver as the colors.  Unfortunately, at this time I wasn’t able to find the photos of my children sledding on our backyard hill in MI when they were much younger…  ;-{    Then I remembered having (in my digi-stash) the Vintage Drawing of the two little girls sledding - a long time ago!  So- this is in honor of my (still!) Dear Friend since 1st grade…  We used to go sledding/tobogganing when we were children and I well remember the frosty times we spent together on MI winter afternoons…  She is still there enjoying the MI snow and I’m here enjoying the CA warm sunshine!

The 12x12 Layout -
Close-up of the Snowglobe -
Close-up of Journaling -

The background paper is from DCWV - Four Seasons stack (Michaels).
The ‘snow globe’ I designed myself -  Vellum circle, silver cardstock base highlighted with brown stamp ink.
The Sledding digi was free in Dec. from Paper Crafting World/Cooking with Cricut.  I changed the color to blue in PSE 8.
The frame and journaling shape is from Penny Duncan Shaplies.
The small white snowflakes and a couple of the silver ones are Martha Stewart punches.  The other silver snowflakes were cut on my Cricut (SCAL) - I don’t remember where I got them.
The jewels here and there are from Recollections (Michaels).
The silver ribbon is from Create It (Michaels).  I pleated and stitched it before attaching it with adhesive.
The ‘extra sparkly snow dots’ here and there were made with Glitter Glue and a DecoColor Liquid Silver pen (Michaels).

Lullabies and Love Album - #5

Part 1

And again, I will put My trust in Him.
And again, Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.
Hebrews 2:13

I (finally) recently completed this ‘First Year of Lullabies and Love’ Album
and crocheted Baby Blanket for my new Grand-Niece!  I have been waiting to share it here until after they had received it in MI.  They received it this week…  I also included a CD with three stories - favorites I’ve read to my children/grandchildren/other children for many years - that I recorded for Breck and Adelaide…since I’m too far away to read to them at bedtime...
(I cannot get the rest of the photos to load on this page after trying for several days... ;-{  ...so will Post these and try to get the rest on a new post...  Discouraging...sorry...)
