Restoring a Ruined Scrapbook!

Welcome to My Little Corner of the Blogging World!  This post is a follow-up to my previous post on Digital Vintage Photo Restorations that I have done in the past several years.  It combines my Digital Restorations with the Scrapbooking that I’ve done for many years.

A few months ago, I was asked to restore a framed photo that had been ruined in a flooding situation.  I did so and in talking with my client, I mentioned that I also did Scrapbooking.  I was then given the job of restoring the Scrapbook that my client had made several years before for her son.  It had documented his life from birth to his adult years in college.  Unfortunately, one of his girlfriends had become extremely upset with him at one point, (I don’t know the details -) and in her anger she had ripped Many of the pages of this beautiful scrapbook!!  8-[

I first had to ‘piece the pages together’ and try to make sense of how the pages had originally been organized.  I then had to carefully remove the ripped photos and as much of the embellishments as I could.  Even after further work, I had to make some 're-grouping' decisions, trying to make sense of where things had been.  I taped each of the photos together on the back side.  I scanned them into my Mac laptop.  One by one, I put them into my Photoshop Elements program and ‘restored’ them.  I printed them.  I had to find a place to purchase the actual pages upon which they had originally been placed, which was difficult because the company was no longer in business.  I finally found a Consultant who had a few pages remaining from her days with that company!  Thankfully!  I then had to recreate each page, placing the restored photos and as much of the ‘salvaged’ embellishments as I had, adding other ‘new’ elements as needed.  Then I put the book together again and presented it to my very happy client – to give to her son - Again.

Digital Vintage Photo Restoration – Before and Afters

RESTORE us to yourself, Lord,

It’s been a few months since I’ve been able to publish my posts several times a week as I have done for the past several years.  Life has been a bit ‘Complicated,’ to say the least.  I have been very busy, but have not been able to do the creative things I love to do and share them with You.  I did think that I would share some of the projects I have worked on – in between the other necessities of this strange time of life.

One thing I have been able to continue to do is my Digital Vintage Photo Restorations for various clients.  I will share just some of the Many that I have done in the past months here and there.  I use Photoshop Elements 10 - and sometimes I also use Perfect Effects Free and Perfect Effects 4 - to work on the photos after scanning them into my Macbook.  Here are some Before and Afters -  I’d love to restore some for YOU – or someone You might know who needs my services.

(NOTE:  I am quite disgusted with Blogger today.  I have worked for Many hours to make this post and it will not keep things lined up as I have them!  Please excuse the way this post has come out.  I apologize.)

 This was the only photo a friend had of her parents from long ago.  Now she can see them better!

 This was a very large framed photo from many years ago.  It had darkened considerably with time.

This 8 x 10 photo had been damaged in a flood and was stuck to the broken glass in the ruined frame as you can see here.

 I restored the photo, printed it and the verse that had been at the bottom, and reframed it for my Client.

 For this one, I removed the legs of the people on the left, cropped and lightened the photo.

My Client wanted her father removed from this group photo.  I cropped him out and repaired and extended the curtain behind him, also removing the people behind him.
