'Home is Where the Heart is' Gatefold Card

Even the sparrow finds a HOME,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young, at your altars,
O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.
Psalm 84 : 3

Welcome to Digi Desserts Fridaze in connection with My Paper Crafting !    We, on the Design Team, are to create a project using a Digital File from the vast selection at MyPaperCrafting.com every Friday, share them with You and encourage You to visit over there, get the FREE Digi File for today, make a project with it and link it for all to see.  The ‘winning’ designer is highlighted next week as a Guest Designer!   It’s an easy and fun thing to do on the weekend!

For this week’s project I made a gatefold card for Some Dear Ones to me who have moved recently into a new apartment.  I thought that Melin’s ‘Home Where Heart DS’ was perfect to express my love and happiness for them.  Here is the card –

*  I put the file in my Perfect Effects Free program and used the Earth Action on it, which gives a mottled effect and more interest than plain flat color.

*  I cut the card base from light green cardstock and embossed it with the Woodgrain folder, which I had inked with Rust ink.

*  I had the ‘negative’ of a shape I’d cut for something in the rust color of the roof and base.  I trimmed it to fit the front of the card I cut some light green/white heart print paper for the backdrop, adhered under the rust ‘negative’ cut and adhered the birdhouse on it.   I trimmed the sentiment an adhered it in three places.  I added heart=shaped and round gems.  I adhered the panel to the left gatefold side.  I added corner punched pieces and gems to three corners.

*  I printed the inside sentiment, “Welcome to Your New Home!” on white cardstock, cut it into a heart shape with my Heart Colluzzle, and mounted it on pink wallpaper and rust cardstock hearts – all cut with my Colluzzle.

Here is the Digi File I used -

Psalm 91 : 14-16 - for Him!

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Psalm 91 : 14-16

For this week’s project I made a rustic, manly card incorporating a Verse Digi from Melin’s Digi Files.  I feel it’s appropriate for – perhaps – someone on Deployment or in some kind of dangerous or stressful situation…  Perhaps a Marine son at some point…  ;-}

*  I used this file –

*  I printed the verse on cream parchment and adhered it inside the card.

*  I cut an opening in the front of the card.  I ripped and inked some pieces of corrugated cardboard from a box.  I ripped a remnant of woven wallpaper.  I threaded three wooden buttons with a heavy twine.  These pieces were all adhered with a glue gun.  I inked around all of the edges.

*  I know this sounds easy – cut-and-dried – but it’s amazing how designing, finding, fixing and creating can take more time than expected.  That, coupled with some major Technical Difficulties this week, made for some Challenges.   I do love a Challenge and it was fun to make something not-so-delicate-and-feminine.  ‘Delicate-and-feminine’ is my usual M.O.!

2013 Calendar Mini-Album

Teach us to number our days
    so that we may truly live and achieve wisdom.
Psalm 90 : 12

Welcome to Digi Desserts Fridaze in connection with My Paper Crafting !    We, on the Design Team, are to create a project using a Digital File from the vast selection at MyPaperCrafting.com every Friday, share them with You and encourage You to visit over there, get the FREE Digi File for today, make a project with it and link it for all to see.  The ‘winning’ designer is highlighted next week as a Guest Designer!   It’s an easy and fun thing to do on the weekend!

For this week’s project I have made a Mini-Album, which can be adjusted for any Theme of your choosing!  I have been working on this one – in between many other things! – since December, when Melin offered the Calendar Pages during the 25 Days of Christmas on her site.  I have planned, plotted, designed, created and finally finished it this week.  Although I had originally planned to have it done by the first of the New Year, I decidedly determined to continue on, as the Calendar Inserts can be changed for each of the future years and the Album can be used year after year.  It can also be made to be used for any other Theme which you might choose to do.  It’s easy to make the pages and you can decorate as you like!

Here is my Mini-Album –  with more information as to what I used to follow -

*  I learned how to make these pages – from 12 x 12 “ sheets of paper or cardstock, a few folds, some adhesive and a hole punch – from Anna Fearer at MorePaperThanShoes.com.  She has a video showing how she makes them HERE.  You can make as many as you choose for your Mini-Album.  I chose to use three shades of a set of papers – in mauve, light green and peach – with two different patterns and they are two-sided with the plain color on the reverse side.

*  I made a front and back cover from a Snack Bar box, covering them with a coordinating stripe paper and white on the inside.  I decorated the front with  1.)  white tissue paper strips, folded in half and then pleated and then  2.)  I covered the edge with a lace-punched border and added Faux-stitching with a brown colored pencil.   3.)  I printed the verse on Vellum and added the brass square 'faux-brads.'  I wanted the paper to show through…

*  I added scraps of coordinating ribbon and trims to the metal ring fasteners that go through the three holes I punched in each page.

*  I added punched Tabs to each page with the Months written on each side. Each double page also makes a pocket, so I included various-sized cards in the pockets for Journaling, Photos or other Mementos to be included throughout the year.  I punched the top corners.

*  I reinforced the hole-punched edge by adhering a piece of folded white cardstock to each page section and then inked the edges with coordinating colored inks.

*  I sized and printed an MPC Vintage Digi file for each month in the coordinating colors for the page.  I added an appropriate trim to the ‘V’ section of each page and other embellishments, along with Faux-stitching where appropriate.

January:  ‘Day 22/2012 - New Year vg’

 February:  ‘Day 4/2012 – Purple Heart vg’ (and 'I Heart U Title cf' )

March:  ‘Day 6/2012 – Cross Purple vg’

May:  Day 9/2012 – ‘Lilacs in Basket vg’

 June:  ‘Roses in Wheel Barrel (Barrow) vg’

July :  Day 11/2012 – ‘Flag-flame vg’

August:  Day 14/2012 – Angels-shell vg’

September:  ‘Boot in Skate vg’

'Rainbow Lace' Birthday Card

Whenever the RAINBOW appears in the clouds,
I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant
between God and all living creatures
of every kind on the earth.
Genesis 9 : 16

For this week’s project I have made a Birthday Card for someone I love very much who likes Rainbows very much!  I used the ‘Happy Birthday Word Art ds’– and I put it on the inside as the sentiment.

*  I love lace and feminine things – She doesn’t so much – She likes things more plain.  I just couldn’t resist at least using a lacey border punch to create a Rainbow for the front of her card – and also used some scraps, as we are both Thrifty!  The planning /figuring took some time, but I like the outcome.  It's not one of my more ambitious endeavors, but nonetheless, made With Love.  (I always think of things After-the-Fact that I could have added/changed, but I did want to keep it fairly simple -)  I adhered the border strips to white cardstock, trimmed it, adhered it to black cardstock pieces, then adhered that to the card front.

*  I used ‘sky’ wallpaper for the sky and other wallpapers mixed with the cardstock.  I added two white clouds – one with a stamped sentiment – one without.

*  It was nice that the colors on the Digi worked well with my rainbow colors!  I did put it into my ‘Photo Effects Free’ program and added the ‘Cracked Paint’ effect to it – which does show up better In Person than in the photo here.  I then put it into my PSE 10 program and printed it on white cardstock.   I cut it, rounded the corners and inked the edges before adhering it to the inside of the card.

I hope it brightens her birthday!  ;-}  Now You can brighten someone's day!

‘New every morning… Thinking of You’ Upright Diamond-fold Card

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
    for his compassions never fail.
They are NEW EVERY MORNING;
    great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3 : 22,23

Welcome to Digi Desserts Fridaze in connection with MyPaper Crafting !

For this week’s project I have made a card using a new-to-me Upright Diamond-fold for the base and the ‘Free-for-the-Day’ Digi from last week’s Digi Desserts Fridaze!  When I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for something I had in mind already – a card of encouragement for someone I know who is going through some heavy struggles.  I designed ‘in my head’ all week while I was working on other projects and things I’m dealing with and then thought I’d quickly make the cuts, the prints and put it together this morning…  Hah!  Every step of it – truly! – had something go wrong !  I finally just finished it, took the photos, ‘fixed’ them, added my watermark, posted them to our Design Team page and now am writing this – at midnight!    8-[  (It’s a good thing my Word for 2013 is PERSEVERE, as it’s what I do Every Day – with Every Thing I do…)

Here is the Card –

Here is the Digi File I used -  and the Cut file I used - (cut on my Silhouette CAMEO!)

*  I recently found the directions for the Upright Diamond-fold Card online.  Here is a sheet made by Jennie Williams and posted on her blog.  It uses a piece of cardstock 7 x 11”.  The finished card is 5 x 7”.

*  My base cardstock is sage parchment and the accent colors are Peach and Black.

*  I put the Digi into my Free ‘Perfect Effects Free’ program and added the Blue Dawn Effect, which lightened the stem and flower center colors.

*   I cut the Frame pieces ‘to size’ first – black background, then sage, then peach for the fancy frame.  I printed the Scripture passage on white cardstock and thought I’d measured and figured so that it would fit totally inside the oval of the frame…  It didn’t quite.  So.  I deleted the scripture passage (using PSE 10), ‘saved’ the flowers and then printed just the flower spray again.  After adhering the frame and Scripture pieces together, I cut those flowers out, inked the centers with Peach ink and attached them with tiny PopDots atop the printed flowers, so that the flowers ‘come out of’ the frame.  I added Glossy Accents to the flower centers.

*  With my Cuttlebug, I embossed the two peach cardstock diamond-shaped pieces for the outside and inside.  Then I inked the edges of those and the card edges.  I attached the Framed piece to one of them for the front.

*  I punched a black lace edging and attached it to the backside of the other diamond piece, adhering a black bow at the intersection of the 2 pieces.  I inked the edges of the oval cut from the Frame, stamped the sentiment and adhered it to the diamond piece.  I adhered the diamond piece to the card inside.

*  One could decorate all of the inside panels, but I chose to do only two of them.  I added a piece of peach cardstock to the thin outside edge panel.  I ‘defined’ the sections, using a black marker.   Many other variations of all of this could be done.  This is just ‘my take’ on a basic card design.  I will add a handwritten note on the largest diamond section inside before I send it.

Aside from the Several Problems I had in the making of this card - (More than even the ones I mentioned here!) - I quite enjoyed the design and assembly process.  I look forward to making other cards using this basic Upright Diamond-fold.  I’d love to hear if YOU attempt to do it and I’d love to see your projects!
